Health Care Innovations in LA

Now that health care reform has passed, what does it mean for Los Angeles? What local leaders are implementing innovations in health care in Los Angeles? If you have thoughts on these questions, please let me know.
I’m excited to again work with the Southern California Leadership Network and help them plan and facilitate their upcoming issue day on Health Care for their Leadership Los Angeles Program.
Last week, I met with a group of current Leadership fellows and alumni, and we brainstormed possible themes, speakers and site visits for this upcoming issue day in June. Based on their input and working with staff from SCLN, I’ll be working to design this one-day learning experience. Through the process, I look forward to building my own understanding of health care and also meeting many talented leaders throughout the process.

Is there a way to integrate home economics and sustainable principals into education again that teach kids about green energy, fresh foods, nutrition and healthy eating. Starting young is the key to character development and changing communities into healthy and sustainable environments. What academic measurements are integral to such advancing this type of learning in the classroom?
Health Care Legistlation
I have clients in this area seeking clarity on recent legislation and unfortunately there is isn't much good information available. I believe this is because so much is tied to 'legislative intent' and there are no rule and regulations written yet that spell that out. The tax implications are confusing but it its clear it will cost employers and providers money; which prompts everyone to become negative fast. I recommend that the focus be on what the legislation HOPES to achieve and what overall societal benefits are to be had. If the focus is just on costs; the conference will be very negative in a hurry. Not many people here in LA understand Congressional legislative intent - try and find someone who does.

Thanks Jane Paul, Matthew and Bruce, Sorry I'm only commenting on your comments now - somehow I missed them until now. Matthew - we heard from the Director and some youth leaders from an organization in East LA called Legacy LA. They're working on promoting healthy eating and reducing causes of air pollution. A more detailed summary of the issue day can be found at http://www.ronmilam.com/blog/post/134. Thanks again, Ron
